Black Violin is Bringing Their Genre-Bending Brilliance to The Valentine—And You Don’t Want to Miss It!

Picture this: A violin. Classical, refined, maybe even a little… expected. Now, imagine that same violin spitting out the beats of your favorite hip-hop track, seamlessly blending Bach with Biggie, Mozart with Missy Elliott. Sounds impossible? Not if you’ve ever witnessed the magic of Black Violin in action.

The GRAMMY-nominated duo, Wil Baptiste and Kev Marcus, are known for shattering expectations, and their latest Full Circle Tour is set to do just that when it lands at The Valentine Theatre on May 8, 2025. If you’ve never seen them live, now is your chance to experience a show that’s equal parts symphony, cypher, and straight-up party.

A Story of Serendipity and Sound

Black Violin’s origin story is the kind of happy accident that feels destined. Back in 1996, on the first day of orchestra class at Dillard High School of the Performing Arts in Fort Lauderdale, fate intervened. Baptiste actually wanted to play the saxophone (which, let’s be honest, would have been a whole different vibe), but his orchestra teacher won a golf bet and snagged him for strings. And just like that, a musical revolution was born.

Fast forward past years of late-night hip-hop sessions, a mind-blowing run on Showtime at the Apollo, and tours with legends like Wu-Tang Clan and Alicia Keys, and you’ve got a duo that’s completely changed the game. Their mix of classical finesse and hip-hop swagger isn’t just cool—it’s transformative.

More Than Music: A Movement

Beyond the stage, Black Violin is on a mission. Through free performances, youth mentorship, and their Black Violin Foundation, they’re making sure that kids—especially in underserved communities—have access to the kind of musical education that changes lives.

They’re not just performing for audiences; they’re building a legacy. And that’s exactly what the Full Circle Tour is all about—returning to your roots, reimagined, and bringing everything you’ve learned along the way.

Why You Need to Be There

If you think classical music isn’t your thing, this show will prove you wrong. If you love hip-hop but have never thought about it played on a violin, prepare to be amazed. Black Violin doesn’t just blend genres—they blow the doors off of them.

This isn’t just a concert. It’s an experience.
