Pizza Rules Everything Around Me | Slim & Husky’s Pizza Beeria Brings Their Love of Music, Art and Pizza To Atlanta

Slim & Husky’s Pizza Beeria ~ West Midtown Atlanta

In 2017, three college friends, Clint Gray, Derrick Moore and E.J. Reed, opened their first Slim & Husky’s Pizza Beeria in North Nashville. This past May, they brought their Pizza.Art.Music restaurant concept to Atlanta. It is quickly becoming Atlanta’s new favorite artisan pizza destination.

The Experience

Upon entering the West Midtown establishment, you are given your 3 step guide to the ultimate Slim & Husky’s Pizza Beeria experience. You start by ordering your pizza. There are two options, select one of their Signature Pizzas or Build Your Own. Pizzas come in two sizes, slim (10”) and husky (16”). All pizza dough and sauces are made daily from scratch in the restaurant. Signature pizzas are named after the founders’ favorite hip hop and r&b artist and songs. You’ll find the Cee No Green, Got 5 On It, The Smokin’ Herb, and the Red Light Special on the menu. Look out for their Signature Vegan Pizza, Nothin But A “V” Thing!

I ordered the California Love (Spinach Basil Pesto, S+H House Cheese Blend, Artichoke, Sliced Tomato Blend and Red Onion). I also opted to add shrimp to my pizza. As part of the Slim & Husky’s experience, your pizza is built right in front of you. After selecting all of your toppings, your pizza is placed in the oven to be baked to perfection.

Next, you pay for your food and select your beverage of choice. Slim & Husky’s offers a nice selection of local beers as well as an additional list of craft beers curated by craft beer blogger, Ale Sharpton. If you’re the mood for a refreshing cocktail, check their Ice Ice Babies. I tried the Tea Bozz, a very tasty tea lemonade and vodka frozen treat. Slim & Husky’s also has sweet tea and fountain drinks, including a selection from Stubborn Soda.

You definitely don’t want to leave without ordering their amazingly delicious Cinnamon Rolls. There are 5 flavors to choose from that can be purchased at 2 for $5 or 6 for $12. I tasted all 5 flavors and enjoyed each one. You most definitely should try all 5 flavors! My favorite was the Ms. Berry. The Ms. Berry Cinnamon Roll was made with blueberry and a fresh lemon glaze. Delicious!!

Shortly after ordering, your name will be called to pick your pizza up. Be sure to stop by The Drizzle Station to elevate your pizza a couple more notches. There are 6 housemade drizzles to choose from including Jalapeño Cilantro Ranch, Stone Ground Peach Mustard, and Chipotle Pineapple BBQ.

Now it’s time to sit and enjoy what’s been carefully prepared for you. My pizza was absolutely delicious! I believe a great pizza starts with a stellar crust. Slim & Husky’s got that right! Their crust is awesome and the sauce is very good! Love that spinach basil pesto! My pizza was perfectly baked and I enjoyed every bite of it.

Slim & Husky’s concept is inspired by Hip Hop and R&B culture, which you will not only see in the naming of menu items, but also in the decor. Murals and paintings beautifully grace their walls and bring you into the world of Slim + Husky’s.

You will find ample seating inside the restaurant as well as on their outside patio. I loved how bright and lively it was. All that great natural light was perfect for taking pictures! The vibes were great and I can’t wait to go back! #PREAM

Wynwood Walls-Miami,Florida

In 2009, Wynwood Walls launched during Art Basel, by the late Tony Goldman. Goldman wanted to transform the warehouse district of Wynwood and visualized a uniquely curated art experience like no other. Since then Wynwood has grown into Miami’s only outdoor street art park, boasting more than 40 murals. It features some of the worlds most amazing artists and muralists across the globe.

Wynwood is located at 2520 NW Second Avenue, on the mainland side of the city, nestled between Little Havana and Downtown Miami. Giving new life to a once rundown neighborhood, this outdoor museum of street artist has become a must-see destination when in Miami. Wynwood Walls is free for the public to explore.

The 19th Annual Food Network & Cooking Channel South Beach Wine & Food Festival 2019-Miami, Florida

And just like that, the 19th Annual Food Network & Cooking Channel South Beach Wine & Food Festival has come to an end. My last experience of attending the food festival was in 2013 and it was quite amazing. Six years later, I was so excited to be attending this ultimate foodie event. As expected, it did not disappoint.

I attended the Goya Grand Tasting Village on Sunday. The weather was perfect on Miami Beach to sip and nosh through those famous white tents. After checking in and picking up my festival glass & swag bag, it was time to enjoy the day.

Festival Squad!

The festival features “talents of the world’s most renowned wine and spirits producers, chefs, and culinary personalities. What’s better than a day of good food and an insane selection of cocktails, wine, and beer to wash it all down? It was a good day indeed.

My favorite bite of the festival goes to The Salty Donut with their insanely delicious donuts. I had their Maple Bacon and White Chocolate Tres Leche donuts. Best. Donut. Ever!!!!

The Salty Donut

Another cool part of the festival is all of the photo opps throughout the festival grounds. There were a lot!

The festival ended with a special performance from Atlanta’s own, Ludacris! He got the crowd dancing and singing along to some of his big hits like Move B$&ch, Yeah, and How Low.

If you’ve never been to The Food Network & Cooking Channel South Beach Wine & Food Festival, it should definitely be on your list.

I Flew Spirit Airlines For The First Time And Would Do It Again – How To Fly Spirit Airlines and Not Empty Your Pockets

Like most people, I was looking for a flight and was drawn to the low prices of Spirit Airlines. A round trip from Detroit to Ft. Lauderdale cost me just $130! But of course, I’ve heard many many negative reviews about their hidden fees. But to my surprise, these fees were not hidden at all. I took the time to weigh my opinions. Here’s what I found.

Flight are offered as a “bare fare”. This means the price you see for the flight is just for the flight and nothing else. No luggage, no carry on, no in-flight snacks or beverages. You will be charged for everything, so you have to be smart to avoid being that person that complains about Spirit because they failed to read the 20pt bold fine print.

Last week I flew to Ft. Lauderdale for a 2-day stay. I was able to get all my clothes and such in a backpack that was within their allotted dimensions. “Your Bare Fare® includes one personal item, one that can fit entirely into an 18″ x 14″ x 8″ size box.” Now you will definitely have to be strategic when packing if you go this route. It’s definitely easier to do if you’re traveling to somewhere warm. The lighter you have to dress, the fewer clothes you have to pack. It will also depend on how many days your trip is. I had a late flight so I decided that I would just wear the same thing I flew in with as I would flying back out. I only had it on for a couple of hours. I also wore a hoodie, a jacket, a pair of converse. Everything else went in my backpack.

What I packed for my 2-day stay:

1 dress

1 skirt

2 tank tops

2 pajamas

1 jumpsuit

2 pairs of flip flops

1 swimsuit

1 coverup

Small crossbody purse

Hair bonnet

1 face/body bar soap

1 travel face/body moisture

Travel Toothpaste

Toothbrush

Floss

Sunscreen

Deodorant

1 Lip gloss

1 lipstick

CC Cream

Mascara

As you can see, I had a very minimal wardrobe. It felt kind of good not to overpack, like I usually do. Not having so much to choose from takes out a lot of the stress of trying to figure out what you want to wear. And you’re not feeling what you’ve packed there’s a Target in almost every city. Keeping toiletries and beauty products to a minimum will also help. Use travel tubes when you can.

To avoid check-in fees ($10 to print each boarding pass.), check in and print your boarding pass at home. If you don’t have access to a printer, just opt for the e-boarding pass to be emailed to you. By doing this you will also avoid having to wait in a long line to check in. Just go straight to the security line!

Spirit Airlines does not provide any inflight complimentary services, such as drinks and snacks. A lot of people seem to have a really big problem with not getting a tiny bag of pretzels and a half cup of soda on a two-hour flight. Is it really that serious? No for me. I brought a small bag of roasted almonds, an orange, and bought a coffee at the airport to hold me over till I got to my destination. And let’s not forget, you can always eat before heading to the airport. It’s really that simple.

Snack & Beverage Menu

When checking in, you will have the option to pick a seat but will cost you up to $50. If you don’t mind risking sitting in a less desired seat choice, or you don’t mind not sitting with the person you’re traveling with, let Spirit pick your seat and avoid the fee. The seats are pretty close but definitely not uncomfortably close, at least not for me. I was actually surprised at how much room I actually had. If you’re a taller individual, I could see it being a problem. You might want to upgrade to an oversized seat. This upcharge will run you an additional $12-150 if booked in advance.

Another complaint I’ve heard about Spirit is their frequent delays. My flight was actually delayed, but to be fair so was a few other airlines. I definitely understand that things happen and they can’t control the weather. I’d much rather get to my destination safely if it means to wait a couple of hours. If potential delays are a concern, book your flight according and allow time to get to where you’re getting on time, even if it means getting there hours before you need to. I would definitely suggest not getting on the last flight and choose the earliest flight as possible.

To even further you saving, join their $9 Fare Club. For an annual fee of $59, you’ll have access to their lowest available fares and discounted online bag prices. These savings also covers everyone on your booking. Read about it HERE.

In my opinion, Spirit Airlines is very upfront about their fees. If you take the time to read their rules and restrictions carefully, you won’t be surprised with additional fees at the airport. It’s that simple.

My first flight with Spirit was a pleasant one. I would definitely fly with them again. The flight crew was lively and very nice. I sat next to nice people. The planes were very clean. Other than the flight delay, everything went as good as it would on any other airline. I look forward to booking my next flight.

KetoFi Burger

a protein-packed burger featuring two all-natural Angus beef patties topped with bacon, a fried egg, drizzled with mustard and served green style (wrapped in fresh, crisp lettuce).

This burger was perfectly seasoned and very tasty. I personally was not a fan of the lettuce, but then again I’m not a fan of lettuce. I just took it off. I did, however, enjoy the Angus beef patties, bacon, and a fried egg on top. It was like an elevated breakfast situation. The fries were great as well!

Vegan Beyond Burger

a plant-based burger that looks, cooks and satisfies like traditional beef. Featuring a Beyond Burger Patty, topped with pickles, onions, lettuce, tomato, mayonnaise, mustard, ketchup, and American cheese. You can also enjoy it vegan style without mayonnaise and cheese.

I’ve been a fan of Beyond Meat products for quite some time, so I was very excited to see it as one of BurgerFi’s Build a Better You Resolution-Friendly menu options. If you’re celebrating Veganuary this month definitely stop BurgerFi and pick up this delicious vegan burger.

More resolution-friendly options include:

Grilled Chicken Sandwich: a free-range, all-natural chicken breast, topped with lettuce, tomato and drizzled with a honey mustard BBQ sauce.

Green Style Burgers: drop the bun and go green, enjoy any burger wrapped in fresh, crisp lettuce.

A Little Treat

I couldn’t leave without indulging in a frozen treat! It was adorned with brownies, chocolate sprinkles, and chocolate sauce, topped with whipped cream. You gotta have whipped cream on top!

Very Happy Girl! [Photo: Amber Howell]
