Today was truly a good day with my daughter. We really didn’t have a plan today but we definitely made the most out of our day. Earlier this week I registered us for Youth Day as part of the Detroit Art Festival. Thank goodness for phone notifications and email reminders, otherwise I would have totally forgotten. It was a beautiful Saturday so we thought it was the perfect day for a road trip.
10:00AM
This place is pretty awesome! My daughter and I, both enjoyed exploring the many fields of STEM in the Michigan Science Center. Children and adults alike will enjoy an array of interactive stations to stimulate the mind.
12:00PM
With the help of my trusty Yelp App I was able to find a very cool pizza shop a couple blocks from the Michigan Science Center. Pie Sci has an amazing selection of pizza. With four basic pizzas: Meatlovers, Veggie D, Margherita, and BLT. Seasonally they offer 8 additional pizzas. I was able to catch the summer menu before they changed over to their fall menu.
I ordered the This ICP (Insane Cauliflower Pizza) with the strong suggestion of the nice employee. Details: red sauce with oven roasted cauliflower, feta, red onion, jalapeño, mozzarella, balsamic graze drizzle. I made it a large Detroit-style pizza. Soooooo good! This pizza is definitely worth the trip to Detroit.
2:00PM
Take little bit of sweet and a whole lot of Hip Hop and find yourself at Dilla’s Delights. Named in memory of Detroit native, J Dilla who left his mark in the music industry, collaborating with artist such as The Roots, Common, and Erykah Badu. Dilla Day is celebrated every year in his honor.
Dilla’s Delights is located in the same building J Dilla once lived, offering a nice selection of organic and vegan donuts.
3:00PM
Eastern Market
Next on our day of adventure was the Eastern Market, one of the oldest and largest year-round markets in the United States. Here in the heart of Detroit, you’ll find the farm fresh produce, small business products, and many other discoveries. This place is huge so you may want to get there earlier to enjoy it all.
4:00PM
In the same neighborhood of the Eastern Market you’ll find many amazing works of art. Walk up and down the streets to view and take pictures of many colorful murals.
5:00PM
Germack Coffee Roasting Co.
Stop at the local coffeeshop for hot cocoa and a latte. Parents, it’s been a long day, you’re going to need it!
