On October 4th, Sip and Nosh Food Tours officially launched with great success. Sip and Nosh Food Tours gives food and cocktail lovers a unique dining experience while walking through a specific community. Groups are small to allow for great conversation. Friday’s walking tour began in Decatur Square in downtown Decatur, Ga. I was very happy to have won tickets to this awesome experience.
The tour began at Calle Latina. Calle Latina brings the flavors of South America to Decatur with empanadas, tacos, and homemade salsas.
We were presented with:
Cangrejo
Crab, Habanero Pepper, Mango, Cilantro
Barbacoa
Pork Shoulder, Caramelized Onion, Chipotle Barbeque
Habanero Slaw
I enjoyed every bite. It was very flavorful and fresh. I didn’t have the pork empanada, but it was also well received amongst our party. It was a great start to the food tour
The second stop was Victory Sandwich Bar. The decor was like a modern American diner. When we sat down we were given their famous Jack and Coke Slushie. It was good and refreshing. Great for summer patio sitting.
What we ate:
Mile High Club
Smoked Turkey, Bacon, Ham, Avocado, Fontina, Dijon
Vegetarian Sandwich
Guacamole, Hummus, Fresh Mozzerella, and Arugula
My vegetarian sandwich was so good. I would have never thought to put those ingredients together, but it was great.
The third stop on the tour was to No.246. This Italian inspired restaurant provides a dining experience using seasonal and local ingredients. As our drinks were being placed on the table I could tell our cocktail specialist for the night took much pride in his work. He gently place each glass on the table along with the components of the cocktail. As he described the drinks our mouths watered with anticipation.
Here is what was prepared for us:
Agnolotti Pasta
Sweet Potato, Apple, Candied Walnut, and Fried Sage
Everything was delicious! The flavors of the pasta was amazing! The cocktails were beautifully made and very unique. I will be back to try the rest of the menu.
Next up was Big Tex Decatur. After a brisk walk up the street, we arrived at the restaurant beaming with anticipation of our next treat. The ambiance made me feel like it was a sports bar type restaurant. There were large screen televisions in every corner as well as patrons cheering loudly for their team. After being seated, we were giving a very tasty Apple Margarita. It was so good.
What we ate:
Catfish Taco
Fried Catfish, Shredded Cabbage, Texas Pete Aioli
Shrimp Taco
Cilantro Garlic Buttered Shrimp and Pickled Veg
I enjoyed both tacos. I will definitely make a return visit in the near future.
The last stop of this awesome food tour was Cakes & Ales. This modern bakery was beautiful inside. We all took a seat at the bar and was given each an expresso. The staff was very pleasant and took the time to explain the bakeries highlights. I really appreciated that they used locally grown and organic ingredients.
What we are:
Chocolate Tart
Topped with Malted Crumble
What a beautiful end to this great tour. The tart was very rich and delicious. I took some home to enjoy later.
I thoroughly enjoyed the Sip and Nosh Food Tour. I look forward to future tours to come.
