National Strawberry Shortcake Day + National Bourbon Day = Best Day Ever!

I got up this morning to find out that it was National Strawberry Shortcake Day AND National Bourbon Day. Yes!! Initially I was just going to make Strawberry Shortcake and went the grocery to get the items I needed for that. But on the way back home I thought that it would be kind of awesome to add bourbon to the strawberries!  Awesome indeed!

Since I wanted to make sure the strawberries had time to bath and get all  relaxed in the bourbon, I sliced them up first. I added a tablespoon of Four Roses Bourbon and sugar to 10 sliced strawberries and let them sit. I then started making my famous Buttermilk Biscuits! This was going to be great! I popped the biscuits in the oven and started on the whipped cream. When making whipped cream it’s best to whip it in a metal bowl that has been chilled. Timing is also important because if over beat you will have butter. So you want beat the heavy whipping cream until it peaks. Sure you can just buy some whipped cream from the store, but freshly whipped cream is sooooo much better. Plus you can as much sweetener as you like. You can also add bourbon! I’ve done that before and it was amazing! And to top it all off, it’s supper easy to make!

So all of the components are almost complete. Strawberries getting happy in the bourbon.Fresh Whipped Cream chilling out in the fridge. Just waiting on the biscuits to get brown. Once that happened it was time to build this wonderfully delightful treat. Check out the recipe below and get your life. Yasssss.
