12 Self-Care Tips to Get You Through the Cold Winter Months

I don’t know too many people who are fans of the cold winter months. I’m definitely not. I grew up in Ohio. Winters are pretty brutal here and sometimes quite unbearable. Last year, my hometown saw windchills of -30 degrees. Who’s really trying to go anywhere that involves going outside. Not me! With those types of conditions, you have to be prepared. You know it’s going to be cold between November and February, so have a plan. How are you going to make the most of it? Go into winter with a positive mind. Here are a few tips to get you started.

1. Moisturize! Moisturize! Moisturize!

Find yourself a great moisturizer because the cold winter months will not be kind to your skin. I love to use a mix of coconut oil, olive oil, flaxseed oil, and vitamin e for my body. For my face, I’m currently loving Pixi Beauty’s Vitamin-C Collection. It leaves my face radiant and very moisturized.

2. Drink something warm.

Hot chocolate with marshmallows, your favorite hot tea, and coffee are all great choices. My favorite is a hot apple cider with a bit of bourbon. Yum!

3. Buy some fuzzy socks.

These socks have to be the best winter accessory ever. They are so cozy! Get yourself several pairs. Your feet will love you for it.

4. Buy a heated blanket.

What a wonderful feeling to be able to climb into a bed that is already warm. A heated blanket will be your best friend.

5. Bake something.

If it’s too cold outside, turn up the music and bake some bread or a batch of delicious cookies.

6. Get more sleep.

During the winter months, it gets dark early. Take advantage by getting to bed earlier and getting a few more winks of sleep.

7. Read.

Head to your local library and pick out a few books. Reading is the best cure for cabin fever.

8. Go outside.

Yes! Bundle up and get some fresh air and some sun. Your body needs vitamin D!

9. Keep moving.

It being cold outside is not exactly inviting to venture out into. Try something new like trap yoga or aerial yoga. You can even download a yoga app and practice at home

10. Take an art class.

Get creative and make a piece of art. Check your local museum for classes.

11. Play in the snow.

Have a snowball fight. Go sledding. Have fun!

12. Rest. Do nothing. Relax.
