How to Throw the Perfect Spring Picnic with Evan Williams Honey

*This post is sponsored by Evan Williams Honey. All opinions are that of my own. #ShowMeTheHoney

This week, we welcomed the official start of Spring. Winter has been pretty brutal this year to say the least. Like most people, I am eagerly waiting for the warm and sunny days of Spring to appear. Longer days and warmer weather are also very crucial to the honeybee. They’ve been hibernating through winter surviving only on last year’s harvest. They are now ready to go out and begin this year’s pollination and nectar collecting. Just like bees, humans are ready to get out of the house and enjoy a little sunshine. What better way to do this than a picnic with some friends and family. The best part about having a picnic is that you don’t have to go very far and you don’t have to spend too much to have a successful one. They can be on the weekend, during the week, even in the evening.

To celebrate the beginning of Spring, I threw a picnic with some of my family. As I mentioned earlier, winter is definitely staying around too long. That being said, we didn’t have spring-like conditions. Even though it was chilly, we had still had an amazing time. While planning my picnic, I decided I wanted to share a few tips on how to plan a successful spring picnic with you.

My inspiration for this post comes from the flavor profile of Evan Williams Honey. Evan Williams Honey combines the great taste of honey with the smoothness of Evan Williams for a drink everyone can enjoy. It definitely screams warm weather, flowers blooming, and a good time. I also love the design of the bottle, adorned with the mighty honeybee, the star of this libation creation. This spring, as the honeybee comes out of hibernation, let us celebrate their return with a bottle of Evan Williams Honey.

Invitations

In this digital age the best way to get the word out about your spring picnic is to send a text. I love creating invitations with graphic apps. There are quite a few out there so find your favorite and get creative! Your invitation should include the day, time and location of the picnic.

Location

Location can be tricky if you live in a state that isn’t particularly warm at the beginning of Spring. Plan accordingly with a plan B in case it’s cold or even raining. That might mean having tents readily available or even having an indoor location as a backup. It may be a good idea to have tables in case it rains or the ground is wet from it raining the night before. Definitely monitor the weather. You want everyone one to have a great time.

If you are fortunate enough to have the perfect weather situation for a picnic, the blue skies, sun shining, and birds tweeting the soundtrack to your party, you have a host of options. The park is definitely a great idea. Just be sure to be informed and respect the park’s rules. I love the idea of placing several blankets on the grass for people to sit and enjoy their surroundings. Don’t forget to provide a few pillows for additional comfort.

If you have a beautiful yard, that would a great choice to have your picnic. I had my picnic at home. Having a picnic table in my backyard worked perfectly with the weather situation I had. Later this spring, I’m definitely going to throw another party!

Drinks & Cocktails

If you want to really impress your guests, show them your mixology skills with a couple Spring-themed cocktails. This Spring, Evan Williams Honey is the perfect drink to welcome the warmer months ahead. With the smoothness of Evan Williams and the sweetest of real natural honey, it’s the perfect addition to your springtime bar.

Enjoying Evan Williams Honey can be as simple as pouring it into a glass and adding ice or topping it off with your favorite mixer. It’s what you would call an easy drinking whiskey. Evan Williams Honey brings fun to whatever you and your friends are up to this Spring. Consider the following drinks to serve.

Honey Lemon

Ingredients

2 oz. Evan Williams Honey Lemonade

Lemon slice

Mint

Instructions- Pour Evan Williams Honey over ice. Fill with Lemonade and stir. Garnish with lemon slice and mint sprig. Sip and enjoy.

On the Rocks

Ingredients

3 oz Evan Williams Honey Ice

Instructions- Pour over ice and serve in rocks glass. Sip and enjoy.

Neat

Ingredients

3 oz Evan Williams Honey

Instructions- Serve in rock glass. Sip and enjoy.

Honey Rosemary Old Fashioned

Ingredients

2 oz Evan Williams Honey

1 tbsp rosemary simple syrup

3 dash of bitters
rosemary sprig for garnish

Ice

Instructions

To make rosemary simple syrup- Combine 1 cup water, 1 cup raw sugar, and 2 sprigs of rosemary in a small pot. Allow to simmer for about 20 minutes. Remove rosemary and strain. Let cool completely.

To make cocktail- Add Evan Williams Honey, rosemary simple syrup, and bitters to rocks glass. Add ice and stir for 15 seconds. Garnish with rosemary sprig. Sip and enjoy.

Bites & Such

Nothing beats a charcuterie board paired with an amazing cocktail menu. Creating a simple and delicious cheese & charcuterie board starts with selecting contrasts, colors, and textures. Your spread can include assorted cheeses, crackers, olives, sliced carrots, assorted deli meats, French bread, grapes, nuts, and berries.

Your guest might want the option of having a sandwich, so be sure to have sandwich making condiments available. Another idea is to have an assortment of dips to offer as well. Remember, the key to selecting the perfect spread is choosing items that are easy to share and eat.

Decorations

Picnic Basket

You can’t have a picnic without a picnic basket. Although they can pretty pricey, I suggest to always be on the lookout for one. You may come across a deal at an after- summer clearance or even while thrift shopping.

Flowers

It’s Spring! So you have to have flowers! I made a few centerpieces with a mason jar, a few slices of lemon, and topped it off with a bunch of baby’s-breath. They came out so cute! And it was quite inexpensive to make. I probably spent $8 total to make four! Flowers are the perfect way to add the Spring vibes to your picnic!

Glasses & Drinkware

I am very particular about what I drink my cocktails out of, so glasses were a must. Nothing messes up a perfectly crafted cocktail like it being served in a plastic cup. Since my picnic took place at home, I was able to use glassware. Most parks do not allow glass, so be mindful of that.

Picnic Blankets

I love a picnic with picnic blankets! They set the tone for your outdoor dining room, as well as protect your food from the outside elements. Choosing a blanket to go along with your theme adds a special touch. This option is weather permitting of course!

It’s a new year and everyone is making those famous New Year’s Resolutions. New job. New house. New love. New you. Many get on the healthy eating bandwagon, hoping to make better eating choices. With so many healthy lifestyles to choose from, it definitely helps to have some delicious options.

BurgerFi – 5475 Windward Pkwy Alpharetta, GA 30004

BurgerFi has a few menu additions to please even the pickiest of palettes. I stopped by last week, to try out a couple of their Build a Better You Resolution-Friendly Options.

KetoFi Burger

a protein-packed burger featuring two all-natural Angus beef patties topped with bacon, a fried egg, drizzled with mustard and served green style (wrapped in fresh, crisp lettuce).

This burger was perfectly seasoned and very tasty. I personally was not a fan of the lettuce, but then again I’m not a fan of lettuce. I just took it off. I did, however, enjoy the Angus beef patties, bacon, and a fried egg on top. It was like an elevated breakfast situation. The fries were great as well!

Vegan Beyond Burger

a plant-based burger that looks, cooks and satisfies like traditional beef. Featuring a Beyond Burger Patty, topped with pickles, onions, lettuce, tomato, mayonnaise, mustard, ketchup, and American cheese. You can also enjoy it vegan style without mayonnaise and cheese.

I’ve been a fan of Beyond Meat products for quite some time, so I was very excited to see it as one of BurgerFi’s Build a Better You Resolution-Friendly menu options. If you’re celebrating Veganuary this month definitely stop BurgerFi and pick up this delicious vegan burger.

More resolution-friendly options include:

Grilled Chicken Sandwich: a free-range, all-natural chicken breast, topped with lettuce, tomato and drizzled with a honey mustard BBQ sauce.

Green Style Burgers: drop the bun and go green, enjoy any burger wrapped in fresh, crisp lettuce.

A Little Treat

I couldn’t leave without indulging in a frozen treat! It was adorned with brownies, chocolate sprinkles, and chocolate sauce, topped with whipped cream. You gotta have whipped cream on top!

Very Happy Girl! [Photo: Amber Howell]

True Food Kitchen [Best Bites Lenox Square Mall]

One of the first places I visited when I moved to Atlanta back in 1995 was Lenox Square Mall. My roommate and spent many of afternoons there just people watching while eating our frozen yogurt. You never knew who you would see. Lenox Mall was a very popular place to visit. Today, it remains as one Atlanta’s top destination for Atlanta locals and visitors alike. Not only does the mall offer a wide variety of shopping options, it also has some nice dining options as well.

True Food Kitchen at Lenox Square Mall

I was recently invited to experience True Food Kitchen for a tasting of their menu. Located near the main entrance of Lenox Square Mall, this “health-driven seasonal restaurant”, is inspired by its co-owner’s, Dr. Weil, anti-inflammintory diet.

“True Food Kitchen believes in selecting and preparing simple and delicious foods to help people achieve and maintain optimal health. “

As soon as you walk through the doors you know you’re going to experience something amazing. The restaurant alone is beautiful. From its large patio space, perfect for those Atlanta summer nights, to its open kitchen concept, you get a very welcoming feel.

I took along fellow blogger and daughter, Sage, for this menu tasting. You can read about her experience from a kid’s point of view HERE. We started off our meal with some fresh housemade juices. Apple Carrot Ginger Tonic. Absolutely amazing! Kale Aid. Right on! Honey Beer Ginger Beer. Yes Please! I’m definitely in love with all of them. What a great way to start a tasting!

Apple Carrot Ginger Tonic

Next up was the Farmer’s Market Crudités. When our waitress brought it out, our eyes got so big. It was beautiful! Amazing how a bowl of fresh raw vegetables with dip can get you so excited. I was more than pleased with this selection. We also had the Edamame Dumplings, which was basically devoured by my daughter. She loved it!

Farmer’s Market Crudités

With the strong suggestion from our lovely waitress, we were next present with one of their popular menu item, the Ancient Grains Bowl. This bowl was a healthy food fanatics dream. It was adorned with miso glazed sweet potatoes, turmeric, charred onions, snow peas, grilled portobello, avocado, and hemp seeds. I also added shrimp to the bowl. So good!! I am very confident in saying that even if you wasn’t a healthy food fanatic, you would still enjoy this bowl!

Ancient Grains Bowl

If there’s pizza on the menu, you already know I’m ordering it! We decided on two of their selections, the Butternut Squash and the Chicken Sausage pizzas. I know what you’re thinking, Butternut Squash on a pizza? Right, I thought the same thing. But let me tell you, it was tasty. It was really tasty in fact. With the smoked onions, kale, vegan almond ricotta, and dried cranberry, you have quite a flavor explosion happening in your mouth. Definetly something you’ve never had, but need to experience.

Butternut Squash Pizza/Chicken Sausage Pizza

We also had the opportunity to preview on of their spring menu items, now available in their restaurants, the Flamed Torched Avocado Salad. THIS! This was amazing! When it came out I was already stuffed. I planned on tasting it and taking the rest home for later. It never made it out of the restaurant!! I couldn’t stop eating it!! It was sooooo good. It’s light. It’s flavorful. And it’s healthy. You can’t go wrong. If you don’t try anything else this spring, try this.

Flamed Torched Avocado

What an amazing experience! I enjoyed every thing beautifully presented to me at True Food Kitchen. This restaurant comes highly recommended by me as a place to get healthy, delicious food.

Tupelo Honey Cafe Brings Good Ole Southern Eats To Georgia

A few weeks ago,  I attended a most fantastic media dinner at Tupelo Honey Cafe‘s newest location in Sandy Springs, GA. It would be my second visit in the last few weeks. This one even more delicious.

We serve fresh, scratch-made, Southern comfort food re-imagined. At Tupelo Honey, when we play with our food (and we think it’s okay), the result is scrumptious.

While waiting for the rest of the guest to arrive I sipped on some Proscecco and chatted with Caroline and Grace from Phase 3 PR. I was also introduced to Tyler, who made sure everything was perfect. As guest arrived they ordered drinks from their carefully crafted cocktail menu. I started with the Peach Mai Tai. Soooo good!

Decatur Square Nights

Today, was another I really don’t feel like cooking night. Plus I was craving another Grindhouse Killer Burger! My daughter on the hand was like really Mom?? Burgers again?? So she opted for sushi from Noodles. She chose salmon roll and eel roll. The person taking the order was very suprised about her selection. He told her that it was great to see a young person like herself willing to try eel and like it, while most adults won’t even give it a chance. She gave him the how could anyone not like eel look. He laughed.

We took the order to go so we could sit at the picnic tables in the square. But first we walked to Grindhouse Killer Burgers to pick my turkey burger up.

Found some cute chalk art on the way!

So if you don’t know, we ate at Grindhouse Killer Burgers on Monday. I’m back! I couldn’t help it! Again I order the turkey burger with lettuce, tomato, cheddar, and fried green tomato. Yummy!!

With bag of awesomeness in hand we headed back to the square to sit and enjoy our dinners.  Mines was tasty as expected. No surprises here! Sage’s sushi was great as well. She only let me have one piece though… Ha!

After eating, we decided that ice cream would be a great ending to this lovely evening. So we headed to Butter & Cream.  This would be our first visit. I’ve been told numerous times that their ice cream was delicious.

After sampling a few flavors, all of which were tasty, I decided on Bourbon Toffee. Yes! It taste just as awesome as it sounds. Sage chose salted caramel. She gave it two thumbs up!
